The Bay Hotel
As is often the case when I take days off work in advance they turn out to be drab days and this was no exception. A flat grey day on the coast saw me visit Robin Hood’s Bay for a winter walk. Spending the full day at the bay meant I saw it go from low tide when I arrived all the way to high tide and waves crashing into the sea wall and even complete darkness. Low tide saw me head out towards the sea before turning back towards the bay and I worked my way back checking the various rock pools for anything abstract that interested me or the opportunity for a reflection. While not offering me anything particularly abstract this larger rock pool allowed me to nicely frame a reflection of the cosy bay hotel with jagged rocks and plenty of texture. I always find that images with a lot of texture to them make the best black and white photographs as it adds contrast and interest that is needed without colour and I had this in mind when crafting this shot, knowing all along that it would be a monochrome image when taken.
