Carried Away

A beautiful sunrise down on Redcar beach in February 2024 saw me and Laura stay local due to having to shoot off to work not long after sunrise. Winter sunrises are my favourites when the alarm isn’t so early and  the air is crisp. Yes you always need plenty of layers on and I certainly wouldn’t be fancying a North Sea dip but nevertheless it’s always worth getting up and out at a beautiful time of the day. We’d decided to focus this morning on photographing the old wooden groynes on the beach looking back towards Marske and I’d been playing about with long exposures when I spotted further along the beach what I’d thought to be seaweed and walked along planning on using it as some foreground to balance my shot. When I got closer I realised it was actually a black carrier bag that had either been discarded or washed up by the sea. While not the most natural of foregrounds I made do and the shiny bag actually captured some of the pre-sunrise pink colours as the waves foamed around it. The bag did of course get carried away as after my shot I picked it up and took it to the nearest bin to stop it getting swept away into the sea.
