I'm Still Standing

Many times over the last years rumours have surfaced that the council have been looking to demolish Steetley Pier however as of yet it is still standing proud. Having taken a day off work to de-stress and spend the day with camera in hand I’d headed up to Seaham to photograph the Tommy Statue and Noses point and swung by Steetley Pier on my way home. I’m so glad I did as I got some beautiful conditions with moody stormy weather incoming as well as pockets of light occurring as the sun shone through some of the small gaps in the clouds. As a fan of long exposure photography and seascapes I was fortunate enough to have fluked getting the tide times right to capture the incoming tide swirling around these old sections of pier and using my ND filter (sunglasses for your camera) captured the movement of the water despite the brighter conditions at the time. With the gap in the pier having been created in order to make it safer and stop people walking along the structure it would a huge shame to lose the pier altogether and it no longer stand as a piece of history.
