Whale of a Time

2025 was a year where photography took a little bit of a back burner. A house move and renovation took precedent and led to probably my least productive year so far since getting into photography. My love for photography had gone nowhere but other things had to take priority over it as either they paid the bills or in the case of the house it was the main bill. Despite the odd venture out I’d hardly used my camera in months and desperate to change that I headed to my favourite place Whitby to change that and get up for sunrise. I always find myself heading here when in a creative rut or lacking motivation and I’m sure that’ll never change. The whalebone arch at Whitby is always one of those places where a good photograph has eluded me for so long, whether its because I prefer sunsets over sunrises (this is definitely a sunrise location) or its just been bad luck I don’t know. Having framed up and taken several compositions I kept finding myself drawn back to this one with the out of focus flowers from a planter nearby and St Nicholas’s church in the centre of the arch. This morning almost felt like a sign to me that the time had come to pick the camera back up and that’s why I was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.
