North York Moors

All Aboard!

This photo was an early start to get across to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in order to catch the first of three runs of the railway by the Flying Scotsman along the line that day. We'd decided that if we were going to take photos at one of the stations the first train was the best bet as less people will have got up early to go and see it and having seen photos of carnage both on the platform and for parking at Grosmont the weekend before we opted instead for the beautiful station of Goathland (aka Hogsmeade). As a huge Harry Potter fan who lives only around half an hour away you'd be surprised how few visits to this station I've made but it is a beautiful place and no surprise at all that it has been used as a film location. Having arrived in plenty of time myself and Andrew both framed up compositions in readiness for the train arriving with one of us on each side of the lines on opposite platforms. I opted for a frame including the beautiful recognisable red metal passenger footbridge over the tracks but unfortunately had to make a late change to a different comp as people arrived and stood on the top of the bridge which took away from my shot but nevertheless I was still happy with this image capturing the train going through the station with the beautiful historic wooden buildings  and the station volunteer giving it that nostalgic feel.
