The Approach
While we chose to visit the railway due to the visiting loco the Flying Scotsman the moors railway also has its own fleet of beautiful engines including this one. 45428 - Eric Treacy is one I have seen numerous times over the years having spent countless Sunday mornings up at the railway with my grandad over the years. It was a staple for me and the NYMR will always have a spot in my heart. Although I maybe only visit once or twice a year now I always come away wishing I visited more. With the Flying Scotsman having been running an hour late on it's second pass through Goathland I overheard the volunteer on the station exclaim that they'll all be running an hour late now and assuming that meant every train we headed out of Goathland station towards the car park to move to another location. Having climbed up to the village I could here a train coming in the distance so powerwalked back down to the station, dropped the camera bag and snapped away as Eric Treacy approached the station capturing it with some lovely light coming through at the points before the station. Thankfully I heard the train coming otherwise we'd have missed out on both seeing and photographing this train when it was on time and it was in fact just the Flying Scotsman services that were running late.
