Beautiful Beacon
One of the many, many photos we took of Danby Beacon under the spectacular aurora show of October 24. We’d planned to find our way over the moors to Whitby with a few stops on the way. Having stopped at the beacon at the top of Birkbrow while the stats were slightly lower we decided to move on and chose Danby Beacon as our next spot. While several people had been at the top of Birkbrow trying to catch a glimpse of the lights we had Danby Beacon in the main to ourselves. We’d timed it perfectly, firstly with it been quiet and secondly the peak of the show was just getting going with the coronal hole directly above us. The beacon was an ideal location as with such dark skies and empty space around it as the aurora danced we could move to suit where it looked best due to been able to move 360 degrees around the beacon. We took hundreds of photos in awe of what we could see and while it was hard to choose this was my favourite as it showed the aurora overhead with is such a rare occurrence in this area.
