Beautiful Byland
Many locations can take numerous visits before you get the kind of light that you want. The unseen time and effort that goes into some of my photos is countless and that’s all part of the fun. Sometimes you might get lucky and catch some lovely light first time and yes that’s great but if that were always the case you’d lose the thrill of the chase and the challenges that make photography so interesting to me. Now here I must admit this was one of those occasions where I did indeed get lucky and get some lovely conditions. When visiting somewhere I’ve never been before I always like to make sure I’m there in good time. It allows me to explore and pick out a favourite composition or two before the best of the light hits and stops me going into headless chicken mode and taking a load of photos that I don’t really like. Quality over quantity for me and make sure what you do is done right. These abbey ruins were an absolute joy in this respect as I found numerous compositions while wandering round and when the light did come out this was my favourite with the golden side light hitting the ruins and the grasses with just enough cloud to make the sky interesting.
