North York Moors

Fields of Gold

This is probably my favourite photo I’ve taken so far. It may not be one that everyone knows where it was taken or be a mind blowing sunrise full of colour but for me this was such an unexpected photo that I’ll always have a soft spot for it and that’s why it sits proudly on our own wall at home. Having checked the forecast we’d predicted there was a chance of a temperature / cloud inversion this morning with some low lying fog and although we were right, we weren’t in the right place. Having climbed a good chunk of the way up Roseberry Topping we realised that we could see pockets of the fog all around but none near the topping so we were in the wrong place. Having opted to head towards the coast for an early morning drive I suddenly stopped the car and pulled onto grass verge to an inquisitive look from Laura which soon changed to excitement when I pointed out a field full of bales with low lying mist sitting in the bottom of the field. A quick power walk to the field and this beautiful view greeted us with the golden hues of the bales and early morning light contrasting with the soft white of the fog.
