Flying Through
The Flying Scotsman is most well known as the first steam locomotive to reach the 100 miles per hour mark. It certainly wasn't going that fast as it came through Goathland station but it was going faster than trains normally go through there due to the fact it wasn't stopping. This service, the first of three that day from Grosmont to Pickering that day and the earlier start meant a quieter than usual Goathland station greeted us with only a handful of people including volunteers and the station master on the platform. I decided that I wanted a shot that although showed off the train would also show off the beautiful station of Goathland I framed this photo up with the old wooden shelter and lamp and stone station building sandwiching the locomotive as it came through with a train full of passengers headed for Pickering at the other end of the line. Having waited for the shot for about half an hour it was all over in a matter of seconds but it was worth the wait and although I rarely feature people in my photos I liked including both the couple on the other platform taking a photo and the volunteer on the same platform as myself just adding that human element to the frame.
