Keeping on Track
This was taken during an annual trip to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s steam gala for me. While I love the railway and visit regularly the steam gala is a perfect opportunity to photograph the railway as with more trains running you get more chances to capture them throughout the day. This train was a demonstration train that was running backwards and forwards between Grosmont and Goathland hauling some freight carriages that had been beautifully restored. From my spot I’d heard the whistle of the train approaching when the light suddenly popped out illuminating the surrounding trees which I think made a huge difference to this photo. Sometimes you can sit somewhere all day and you get rewarded with a minute of beautiful light.
