Towering
Back in 2022 myself and another photographer headed across the country to Blackpool for a night of photography with the illuminations, long exposures and a few social drinks on the agenda. Having not been to the illuminations for around 20 years it was a bit of nostalgia to see them and the old trams and I found myself enjoying the trip down memory lane without really capturing any images I was happy with. With the temperature just above freezing and the cold getting to us it was looking like our photography was about to be over in a rather unsuccessful manner and we’d head inside. Determined to carry on and come away with something I was happy with I avoided the arcades / pub and committed to finding a composition I liked before heading inside. I’d had my eye on this fairground ride near the tower and knew I wanted to include it but until I found this metal fence I was unsure of how to incorporate it without it looking like a snapshot. Tripod set up as low as it could go I could see that I finally had something I liked and all I had to do was wait and wait until someone was brave enough to get on the ride so I could capture it in motion but all I can say is rather them than me!
