03 – November 25
We’ve certainly been busy since my last news / blog post. I’ve had a couple of visits up to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (1 with Laura and 1 without), we’ve had a few nights away in the lakes, the craft fair season has got going and we’ve also visited both the Illuminated Abbey and Lumiere events in Whitby and Durham respectively. Not only that we have also had our first snowfall of the winter. With temperatures dropping and low pressure we saw the forecast for the first snow due overnight on higher ground on the Tuesday night we were due to leave the lakes. While we’d have loved to have photographed the snow covered fells the forecast was suggesting heading back home across the country wouldn’t be a bad idea with further snow due and the east of the country looking like it would get the brunt of it. Rather than risking having to drive miles and miles across a winter wonderland we opted to get ourselves home and onto our home side of the country before the snow hit. The snow did however come and having picked Laura’s car up from the garage where it was getting serviced while we were away the snow started and we couldn’t resist heading up to Roseberry Topping before we had even got home and unpacked from the lakes.
Whenever I get asked about snow I always say its beautiful when you’ve got nowhere to go. Our country seems to grind to halt with roads impassable and people panic buying in shops so its probably a good job that we don’t get it as frequently as we have in the past. From a photography point of view however we were crying out for snow. When preparing our 2026 calendars (limited stock remaining) we realised we were getting down on snowy photos to use for December in our calendars but thanks to a full day spent round Roseberry Topping in the snow its fair to say I’ve at least got some choices for 2027’s calendar and who knows maybe even a set of Roseberry Topping Christmas cards……
