Gateway to Lindisfarne
Having a week nearby as part of a family holiday offered the perfect opportunity to visit and photograph Holy Island. Having spent an afternoon on the island the day before we’d opted to go the next morning for sunrise. Thankfully having spent the afternoon before exploring we’d been able to pick out several compositions including the castle to shoot in the morning giving us the lay of the land and a rough plan should we be blessed with a beautiful sunrise. With the area to ourselves barring a few fishermen and a couple of horses in a surrounding field we were able to get on with the photography in peace. Having started at the standard photo with the upturned boats in the harbour I headed further towards the castle stopping at this beautifully weathered gate in the dry stone wall adding some foreground as the sun peeped above the horizon behind.
