A valentine’s present to Laura saw us tick off one of her bucket list locations in the Sycamore Gap tree. Having booked an Air BnB nearby for the weekend we knew this was a must-see for us as it has been for many, many people over the years. Unfortunately as you are probably aware the tree was tragically felled back in September 2023 and this photo was from our only visit. It speaks to the popularity of the place that there was a constant stream of people walking past the tree or having packed lunches there which saw Laura getting more and more annoyed as she wanted a clean people-free shot of the tree. I in the mean time was watching and waiting for a moment to capture and when this father was helping his toddler to keep balance across the stones it felt as though he was guiding the toddler towards the tree to show its beauty to the youngster.
