Come on Eilean
Sometimes locations aren’t what they are what you’ve built them up to be. Bucket list locations sometimes are just that where you visit and say well, at least I’ve been but you aren’t happy that its lived up to its billing but in this case it was all I’d hoped and more. Having seen numerous photos of this place I’d been itching to add it into our first Scotland roadtrip and Laura didn’t take much persuading. Having pitched our tent at a nearby campsite armed with camera bags and a box of shortbread we headed for Eilean Donan. Parking at a nearby viewpoint within 5 minutes of setting our cameras up the heavens opened and sent us running for the car to dry our cameras and sit the downpour out. With the sun having already set Laura asked if we were heading back to the tent but she hadn’t realised that the castle gets lit up at night so we had a change of plan and moved parking spots into the castle’s car park, shared some shortbread and waited for blue hour and someone to put 50p in the meter. Having split up and explored different areas I’d headed towards the bridge to the castle and spotted this vibrant yellow gorse bush and after several tripod movements and getting spiked on numerous occasions I settled on this shot with the gorse and warm castle lighting adding a splash of yellow to this blue hour photo.
