Cor Blimey
The old boat of Caol near Fort William is another well-known Scotland location for photographers and with good reason. Also know as the Corpach Shipwreck the old abandoned wreck of the MV Dayspring sits on the beach between Corpach and Caol having broken free from its moorings during a storm and having been aided ashore by the local coastguard in 2011. While the shipwreck is interesting as unlike plenty of other wrecks it isn’t just a pile of wood its definitely the backdrop of Ben Nevis that makes it such a popular image. I always find visiting these popular locations a good challenge to try and come up with different compositions to those commonly seen and the post sunrise side light hitting the trees saw me opt to include them in my shot unlike the many photos seen before which don’t. I did however have a slight mishap here but thankfully I got away with it. An amateur error saw us take our camera bags off and leave them on the beach well back but the light had been that good we’d failed to notice how quick the tide had come in and having turned around (while knee deep in water myself) I spotted the incoming tide hitting my camera bag. Thankfully the rest of my kit was fine and I had a bag with me for hiking which doubled as a replacement camera bag for the next day or so while the other dried out.
