A Gift to Edinburgh
A delayed day trip to Edinburgh back in January 2024 saw us having to postpone a £1 each way train ticket to Edinburgh by a day following high winds and stormy weather on our planned day out but we ended up with a lovely day with changeable light on the revised date (a photographer’s dream). Winter meaning we didn’t have to contend with a harsh high sun during the day and even got some beautiful light in this photo as the midday sun poked through that famous moody Scottish cloud. This was actually one of the first photos I took after getting off the train at Edinburgh Waverley and heading to the neighbouring Princes Street Gardens. We did the touristy thing and took some photos of the fountain although in our case it was with camera and tripod rather than a selfie like 99.9% of people were doing. Did you know that the fountain was a gift from a gunmaker named Daniel Ross and was given to the city of Edinburgh as a gift? Hence the name….
