Steam Trains

Emergence

Having spent countless days up at the NYMR during my childhood I still make an effort to visit a couple of times a year. I spent a lot of Sunday mornings with my grandad at Grosmont wandering around the engine sheds seeing what was going on and watching the trains go by. Having spent the day with Laura only a couple of weeks prior photographing the Flying Scotsman I went back, alone this time and went back to the engine sheds I used to know so well. Changes everywhere, new buildings but still that sense of familiarity walking through the old tunnel and heading to the MPD shed looking back towards Grosmont to wait for the first service of the day. Thankfully I was prepared and set up early as after snapping some pictures of them getting ready for the day the Scotsman left the station for a trial run before heading down to pull its first trip of the day and I managed to capture this shot of the nameplate emerging from the steam as it came out the tunnel. Probably my favourite of a productive day that I felt suited a simple monochrome edit to add to the drama.
