Lovebirds
As a very organised person before any trip I have in mind photos that I’d like to capture and this day on Skomer was no different. While wanting the classic sand eels in the mouth photo of a puffin and an in-flight photo I also had a few others in mind that were less likely but would have been amazing if I could get them and this moment was one of them. Having seen the puffins at Bempton Cliffs a couple of times before and never witnessed them bashing beaks I didn’t have high hopes but having crouched down watching this pair through my lens luck was on my side and I managed to capture the moment and loved it so much that I used it as February in my 2025 calendar as it was so adorable. What I will say is I did not expect the noise that this act creates as the loud noise from the two beaks hitting together were a lot louder than I ever expected!
